Genesis' Second Luxury SUV, The 2022 GV70 Revealed

November 1, 2020
Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis has revealed its second luxury SUV, the GV70 and it will sit below the full-size GV80 globally. The new Genesis GV70, Genesis’s fifth model after the G70, G80, and G90 saloons, and the larger GV80 SUV, is intended to compete head-on with the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC in the booming mid-size premium SUV segment. The design of the GV70 bears a close resemblance to the recently facelifted G70 sedan. The brand’s dual-line motif continues here with the split headlight and taillight layout, along with the now-ubiquitous shield grille. There is also a dramatic c-pillar shape and attention-seeking upright exhausts.Inside, the GV70 gets the same 14.5-inch touchscreen perched atop the dash as in the GV80, and ditto the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The GV70 gets ambient lighting surrounding the climate controls, and oval shapes popping up throughout the interior. While the company is quiet on numbers, powering the GV70 could be a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder and optional 3.5-liter six-cylinder, with potentially up to 375 horsepower. The first all-electric Genesis is also planned next year, according to Hyundai’s Strategy 2025 roadmap, with more to follow from 2024.
