Great Wall Motors, China's largest SUV and pickup truck manufacturer, today announced the appointment of Vishal Group as the official and authorised dealer for Nepal. Great Wall Motors and Vishal Group signed a dealer agreement by "cloud signing", on the morning of December 31st, 2020.At the signing ceremony, Mr. Tony Sun, Deputy General Manager of GWM Sales International, expressed anticipations for the cooperation between the two sides and said that with the expansion of GWM's global business, GWM would provide more abundant products for the Nepalese market in the future, and believed that remarkable success would be achieved through cooperation between the two sides.Mr. Nikunj Agrawal, Executive Director of Vishal Group, highly affirmed the product and brand concept of GWM, saying that he would coordinate the resources of the Group's financial, insurance, and other business sectors to fully support GWM's business and achieve a market leadership position.GWM will not stop expanding its overseas business and will continue to explore new markets in new regions, paving the way for GWM to lead overseas sales in the future, further states the press release. At the same time, under the background of accelerating the globalization strategy, GWM will enter the Nepalese market with the help of brand-new products and a new platform, bringing a more intelligent and safer product experience to local consumers, and will further strengthen local consumers' understanding of Chinese brands.GWM made its Indian debut at Auto Expo 2020, showing its strong products and technological strength, where it announced investments of $1 billion in India in phases; this included the acquisition of General Motors’ Talegaon plant, the setting up of a research and development (R&D) facility besides sales and marketing infrastructure. However, due to the India-China border dispute and rising tensions, the company delayed its foray into the Indian market. The launch of GWM’s Haval brand is expected to be pushed back to 2022.Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see Great Wall’s strategy in the Nepalese market as and when it decides to bring its products here. We believe the company will likely introduce its sub-brand Haval first, followed by GWM EV in the second phase. The SUVs will be - Haval H4, H6, and H9. Out of the three, the brand might launch the H4 first to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta and others.
