Overlanding is self-reliant adventure travel to remote destinations where the journey is the primary goal. Typically accommodated by mechanized off-road capable transport (from bicycles to trucks) where the principal form of lodging is camping; often lasting for extended lengths of time (months to years) and often spanning international boundaries. While expedition is defined as a journey with a purpose, overlanding sees the journey as the purpose. Overlanding is about exploration, rather than conquering obstacles.
Think... Long duration national or international camp hopping. So behind every, "let’s get out and go where the road takes us." Lies a question, "Where will we sleep?"
Well, that is where Yeti Gear comes in. The company has made exploration much better and convenient with the introduction of the Alu-Cab Gen 3.1 Expedition Tent in the Nepalese market. Let's shed some light on the tent maker before getting to the product at hand yeah?
Alu-Cab's journey began in 2000 AD in South Africa. The company's own African travel experiences taught them that space and weight were the two greatest hurdles facing any overland traveller. To address this, they developed the first-ever aluminium canopy – specifically engineered for adventure travellers. But the development didn’t stop there: they have now come up with the Gen 3.1 Expedition Tent that is arguably one of the best in the industry. The Expedition Tent follows a hardshell design, typically lasts longer than their soft-shell equivalents, they’re also easier to clean, and far more resilient to rain, snow, and windy weather conditions. But most of all, from an overland-travel perspective (where you’re moving from one camp to the next), you just can’t beat the convenience of a pop-up rooftop tent; which is why the ever-popular Expedition Tent is now in its 3rd Generation design.
Buying a rooftop tent is no different from buying a household bed, where comfort is critical; which is why the Expedition Tent comes with a generous 75 mm high-density foam mattress. It also includes a reading light, USB charging ports (for your mobile phone), a 12V power socket, and a series of storage pockets where you can keep your keys, books, and even your shoes.
Thanks to the Expedition Tent’s robust aluminum housing, you have the option of fitting Alu-Cab load bars. This means you can still pack large bulky items on top of your tent. Whether it be a solar panel, camping table, kayak, or mountain bike. The Gen 3.1 Expedition Tent doesn’t prevent you from packing gear on your roof as other rooftop tents do.
As the tent is also being widely used by extreme adventure travelers across the globe, the tent offers the best possible insulation against blazing African heat, as well as sub-zero temperatures found in Europe and North America. That said, the Gen 3.1 roof structure and base are generously insulated with a closed-cell foam lining that offers excellent comfort and insulation all year round. It also gets an awning cover over the tent’s rear door, which helps to keep rain, snow, and frost off the rear opening.
So, if you’re looking to get a rooftop tent with a far more durable, versatile, and easy-to-use option, look no further than the Gen 3.1 Expedition Tent – a third-generation product that has evolved into a supremely comfortable, spacious, and fast-pitching home away from home.
