A delegation led by NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal Chairman Dhruba Thapa met Hon'ble Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Dilendra Prasad Badu on June 20, 2022 and demanded that the government lift the ban on the import of private vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans. The automobile sector contributes about 25 percent of the total tax revenue of the country.
During the meeting, Thapa called on the government to improve the current foreign exchange reserves of the country and requested the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to immediately lift the ban on the import of private cars, jeeps and vans by mid-July. Chairman Thapa also informed that the automobile business has declined by more than 80 percent in the last eight months due to financial instability in banks and financial institutions.
Chairman Thapa added that it is necessary to lift the ban on the import of private vehicles because the 15th edition of the NADA Auto Show is also around the corner. During the meeting, Minister Dilendra Prasad Badu assured that the ban on the import of private vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans is only till mid-July and the ban would be lifted from July 17, 2022 (Shrawan 1, 2079 B.S.).
NADA General Secretary Surendra Kumar Upreti, Treasurer Milan Babu Malla, Central Working Committee Member Akash Golchha and Association Secretary Surendra Pradhan were also present at the meeting.
